The Great White North

In the picture above we are entering Glacier Bay National Park in Alaska. The picture below shows Margerie Glacier. Some pieces of ice fell into the water. My dad captured that with the video camera. When the ice breaks it sounds like thunder.

The picture below is of the small fishing village of Ketchikan, Alaska. It is a very nice town. We bought a bunch of our souvenirs here. We were watching airplanes land and take off from the sea. That was lots of fun. This town reminds me of the song "Life In A Northern Town" by Dream Academy. That is why we put this song on our web page. We recommend you listen to that song while you watch our pictures of Alaska.

This is me and Marcos looking out the porthole window as the ship is sailing towards Glacier Bay National Park:

This is another glacier  in the park This glacier had a waterfall inside of it. You can see a small cave, that is where the waterfall was.

Here is my mom, me and Marcos in Ketchikan, Alaska. Our ship is in the background. It was called the Pearl:

This is me and my brother enjoying an ice cream cone at Glacier Bay NP. It was a little cold for us so right after this picture we went inside and had some hot chocolate. We are not used to seeing snow in June. Or any time of the year for that matter. We are from Texas and where we live we hardly see snow.

We are now leaving Glacier Bay NP. We recommend you visit this place at least once in your life. You see whales, seals, bald eagles and so much more. It was a truly magical place.

Entering Canada on our way to the Yukon Territory on board the White Pass Railroad. We took this train ride from Skagway, Alaska into Canada. We are on the border, literally.

This trestle was no longer in use. Instead we went through a tunnel that was just above this old train bridge (trestle). The mountains here were very high and there was still some snow on the ground.

This is the tunnel we were telling you about. It wasn't too long but it did get very dark. We love going through tunnels. They are spooky.

This is me, Hector, looking to see if I can find a grizzly bear or maybe spot an American bald eagle.

I wasn't looking for bears or eagles. I was just enjoying the ride on the White Pass train. I also needed to go to the bathroom.

While in Alaska I got to do my science fair project for the coming school year. It was on global warming. This park ranger worked at Mendenhall Glacier outside of Juneau, Alaska. I asked her if all glaciers were melting. To my surprise she said not all. She said that some were actually growing. Go figure.

Here we are at Mendenhall Glacier. I am holding Junior, the bald eagle I bought in downtown Juneau. Marcos is holding on trying not to fall off the wall we are sitting on. In the background is the glacier.

Downtown Juneau, Alaska.

We also went hiking way above Juneau. These mountains were high.

On the hiking trail.

This was our view of Juneau from our hiking trail.

The clock has struck midnight. Our cruise to Alaska is over. We are back in the Emerald city (Seattle).

In Seattle, we were fascinated by the space needle. To us it looked like a giant spaceship.

To our surprise, my mom and dad told us that we were going to have dinner in the spaceship. Marcos was really happy about that.

Before dinner, we got to go to the observation deck. You can see Puget Sound, all of Seattle and all the way to Mt. Rainer.

The best part of dinner was dessert. We ordered something called the "Lunar Orbiter". It was a giant dish of ice cream with chocolate syrup. It also was sitting on top of dry ice, which covered our whole table in a cloud. It was the best dessert we ever had. It was "out of this world".

The end of the trail. This is my brother Hector watching our plane pull up to the gate to take us back home. He does not look too happy. Oh well, like they say, all good things must come to an end. But we''ll be back because in July we are going to Niagara Falls. See you then.
